Very sad to hear it and my sympathies to the family.  I feel he has went on to get some rest.

I am very grateful for the instrumental role he played in making Kajukenbo what it is.  The things that attracted me to Kajukenbo were the emphasis on street effectiveness while still maintaining a strong link to the past through forms and courtesies.  It makes for more than just someone who can defend themselves, but a warrior scholar, one who improves their fellowman.

God bless Sijo.  Enjoy your reunions.

To the Emperado family,

Thank you for sharing Sijo with us all these years. May God comfort you in your time of sorrow and grief. Sijo gave us all the gift of Kajukenbo and with that we pay homage and carry on Sijo's love for the martial arts. From the I Ching book of wisdom, the Chinese sage Wu Wei states, "Through words and deeds the superior person moves heaven and earth." Sijo was that superior person. He was a master of masters, yet he was a humble man with a big heart. God bless you Sijo!

Last nights loss of our founder weighs heavy on our hearts,
Every where he will be guiding us as we further carry on his art.

Punching kicking hitting making it real,
That's the love for one another we feel.

From the street for the street I have often heard say,
Sijo's guidance and encouragement always showed us the way.

Let's not forget each other as we all transition,
Strength togetherness Ohana should be our mission.

We are over 250,000 strong,
Train hard and let our Kiai be our song.

Sijo Emperado may you rest in peace,
You can trust your legacy will never cease.

From all of us here at the Kajukenbo Self Defense Academy, Our humble condolences to the Emperado family.

Kajukenbo Forever!

Let us never forget our Sijo and our roots!! Sijo certainly touched countless lives, let us make him proud!! Let us stay strong in our Ohana and not splinter and fight amongst ourselves at this time. Let us come together and mourn and move forward as he would have liked and expected of us. Continue his legacy!!!

Our thoughts and Prayers are with Sijo's true friends and his family during this difficult time.

It is such a terrible loss for the Emperado family and the worldwide Kajukenbo family.  And an even greater loss for those generations to come that will never get to meet and know the man.  He taught us so much, and inspired us so much.
The one consolation is that he is no longer in pain, and rests forever in peace with so many old friends and loved ones.

Sijo passed away.
It is a sad day.

Sijo was a pioneer
that many did endear.

Sijo's legacy will live on
his memory will not be gone.

Sijo inspired us much
and empowered us such.

Through Sijo many friendships were formed
some lifelong, some torn.

Little did Sijo probably know back in the start
he would have thousands of descendants in this art.

Many lives have been enhanced
skills and esteem advanced.

The training and progression will go on
the fire of Sijo's spirit not done.

I will be happy and not shed tears
but will mourn Sijo for years.

Sijo has given us a way to walk the warrior's path
a way of discipline and not wrath.

I pray to the Creator that Sijo's soul be embraced
and blessed with peace in that heavenly place.

Aloha nou Sijo Emperado
a founder and Father of Kajukenbo.

Just had to let go some thoughts. Feel free to Honor Sijo and add yours.

I don't have the words to express my sadness.

Sijo Emperado, and the art he helped create, touched so many lives in so many profound ways. Maybe from where he is now, he can look down and see how great far-reaching the effects aof his art have been : how many lives were changed through his art, and how many lives were directed on a better path from his influence.

I, for one, know that without this art, I would be in prison, or long ago dead.

May God truly bless and keep you, Sijo. May your family and friends find comfort in one another at this sad time.

My brothers and sisters in Kajukenbo: Stay united and don't let the passing of Sijo fragment our art as has happened in so many at the passing of their leaders. We are OHANA...family! Make Sijo proud, and continue to support one another as we have in the past. Keep the dignity and pride alive in our art, the art Sijo left for us! Make him proud!

Kajukenbo Forever! Emperado Forever!

We at the Tum Pai Branch would like to express our sympathy at the passing of Sijo. Know that our prayers go out to his family, and to all those who were close to him. It is a tragic loss, not only for Kajukenbo, but for martial artists everywhere. He touched so many lives, and changed many more. He was not only one of the premier martial artists of our day, but a great individual as well. His guidance will surely be missed, by all, and especially me.

I will always cherish the summer he lived with me. Often times he would just sit and watch me, later he would offer suggestions and make corrections. I took those to heart, and greatly appreciated his help and time.

In recent times, Kajukenbo has lost several senior members, and now we lose the man responsible for the formation of such a great art, which in turn has produced so many fine caliber martial artists.

Again, our deepest sympathies.

With much respect,

I am saddened to hear that Sijo has passed away. I loved this man deeply and have learned many of lifes lessons from him. I had nothing to offer him, but he offered me much. To this end he has passed the torch to myself and many others, like Sifu Greg Harper, like Professor Vince Black. I cried knowing that I had lost a true friend, wanting him back. But I stand strong today knowing that his art lives in each of us that he taught. Not one piece is diminished by his passing. In fact, if one was to ask Sijo, " What do we do now ? " I know what he would say. " What? Brudder, I left you all kine of my people all over da world. What more do you need. You want. You give. You see me everywhere. Through this fist style one gains long life and hapiness. We should all follow in his Spirit. Live long, teach strong, love as much as you can. Noi, gonna miss you brah, but your Spirit is going to live on a long time. Mahalo.

I wrote this the day I found out Sijo passed away, I thought I would share it with the Kaju Ohana. Better late than never!

I woke up this morning and found out that our beloved Sijo has passed away. He has had a great impact on my life as well as everyone in the Kajukenbo Ohana. This man has created a system and a way of life that many follow because it is a pure and healthy life for those who choose to live the life as a Kajukenboist! His ideas along with the other founding fathers of the system have set a foundation of blending thoughts, styles and cultures for a better understanding and hybrid way of life. These ideals have led me to be opened minded and versatile in the world we live in. Sijo Adriano Emperado will be greatly missed but his teaching will never be forgotten. I would not be the person I am today if it was not for his teachings from the Palama Settlement that have been passed down from generation to generation. May God bless Sijo, his family and the Kajukenbo Ohana. His teachings of the martial arts will live on eternally.
