How can anyone with any self esteem at all attempt earning a black belt through distance education.  Don't get me wrong there are a lot of great opportunities available to us through distance ed. program, but a hand to hand combat by video GET REAL.  What a bunch of posers.  I guess this shouldn't bother me this much, but like Geoff (dastars) commented on I would much rather have a Kaju color belt than one of these black belt and you will be considerably better prepared to defend yourself.  I think the problem boils down to these idiots claiming "black belts, get your black belts here" that for those of us who have earned one legitimately it feels like it is diminished a little, but on the other hand it should make us feel even better about our black belts, (I am trying to be "the glass is half full kind of guy").

Is there a time requirement or training requirement at all or your schools?  We have 150 training sessions (about 3 hrs a night) to be Considered for the next belt and 300 between brown and black.  Some are just never ready, some ready way before...well I guess only a couple.  I have only 5 to judge from, but between 8 plus and 13 yrs so far.  Most don't make it, but a Black Belt should be like a PHD, long and hard to get.  You should remember how hard the journey was or would it really be worth it.  I have a doctorate and it was 8 yrs and then residency after that....I think a Kaju BB should be harder then that, with more bruises

Here's the sales pitch.  No mention of the price.

http://www.usaselfdefensecenters.com/kenpojiujitsu.html

I'm surprised he dosen't offer higher rank to Kajukenbo black belts, since we actually do some jujitsu.  But that may be possible at a additional price ::)

What is the standard for a BB in a different system that is new to your school?  I know at my original Kajukembo school, I did not have to go off of the time periods due to my experiance.  How about your schools?

Since my school is based for the most part in fighting; boxing, submission, Thai, Trapping, stick/knife...etc...there is a good chance they would have to learn all that.  The forms, punch and grab arts tend to come easy to a Kaju black belt even if from different branches.  If they were say a ranked Black belt they may move quicker, just on there ability to learn.  They would have to earn it like a white belt, but experience does sometimes pay off. So basically there is no "standard" it would beup to that individual....

Aloha My Brothers and Sisters,

Reading all these post’s reminds me of a time back in 1962 when I was training with Mr. Walter Godin.  I was working out six days a week for three hours a day and I was every bodies dummy for techniques.  I asked Mr. Godin when he was going to give me my Purple Belt test.  He just looked at this 10 year old kid and said “Now you can call yourself a white belt in Kajukenbo and that is not just a string you are wearing around your waist anymore.”  I never forgot that and I never again ever asked about any belt test!!!

Anyone who is looking for rank is looking for the wrong thing.

Just my two cents or less.

Professor Sedeno our school rule is if you ask about the next promotion you'll be waiting 6 more months to test....but I like the drop down a belt idea.....Sigung Tyrrell I like your thought process that the more McDojo's there are the better it makes us look.  The earliest at my school is 18, though we have never had anyone under 20 years old make Black.  The guys testing this Saturday are 30 and 35 and have over 22 years between them.....

Sigung Bono,

As I learned the hard way at Prof.Godins school he had that same rule eccept it might take longer then six months before he would test you.  Most schools in Hawaii in the 1960’s had that same mentality, you ask and you NO GET!

We are proud that our rule is “You have to earn your belt and not just receive one.”  After all is said and done a belt is just that, but what is inside of you and how you represent your teachers is more important.
