Chuan Fa Kung Fu?
« on: July 08, 2006, 05:03:20 AM »
Hello, this is my first post.
I am Zackary MacKenzie, from Malagash, Nova Scotia, Canada.
I have just joined Kajukenpo Chuan Fa Kung Fu.
KA (long life) - comes from the word Karate, an art form that places the emphasis on hard and powerful techniques. The karate influence was from Tang Soo Do brought by P.Y.Y. Choo.

JU (happiness) - comes from Judo and Jujitsu, art forms that emphasize throwing, locks and sweeps. The judo and jujitsu influence was from Kodenkan Danzan Ryu brought by Joe Holck and Se Keino Ryu brought by Frank Ordonez.

KEN (fist) - comes from Kenpo, a form of karate that not only stresses the hard and powerful movements, but emphasizes multiple and fluid hand techniques. The kenpo influence was from Kosho Shorei Kenpo brought by Adriano Emperado.

BO (style) - comes from Chinese and American boxing. Chinese boxing means Kung Fu, which puts emphasis on flexibility and agility, parrying and evasive movements that flow together. The Chinese boxing influence was from Northern and Southern Sil-lum styles brought by Clarence Chang.

But I am taking 'PO' not 'BO'
I found out the PO is american style and BO is more chinese.
But where I am takeing Chuan Fa Kung Fu, doesn't that mean chinese as well.
I guess I would like to know of the back ground of what I am taking

Kajukenpo Chuan Fa Kung Fu.

Thank you.

My intructor is Rob woods, who is training under Shr Fu Tobin(3rd Degree Black belt in Kajukenpo Chuan Fa Kung Fu).  He is based in Truro Nova Scotia.
What affiliation is Kajukenpo Chu’an Fa Kung Fu have with the Kajukenbo Chu’an Fa System? I do not know and would like to find out.  Shr Fu Tobin has a school in Truro, Rob Woods; I don't know his rank; is one of his students that teaches where I live.

The only way to know is to trace your lineage back from your instructor to his instructor, etc.  There are some systems on the east coast of America that have no connection to Kajukenbo, but use names like kajukenPo, and kajukenFu.

Thanks ... I am just trying to trace the roots of what I am learning.

I'm familiar with who you may be talking about.

Your probably looking for Bill Gregory of "Kajukenpo Pai Lum", no connection to our Kajukenbo.

Bill Gregory is on the family tree under Nick Cerio which indicates a connection to Kajukenbo, but not necessarily Kajukenbo anymore.

It makes me nervous to read this because there has been a lot of pin balling of affiliations to obtain rank, given for training not completed. We have to sit back and think about the promises we make from our positions as instructors. This is especially important with the senior ranks because what we do carries weight and cannot be undone so easily. It may do our egos good to have someone from far away who wants to call us sigung or professor or whatever, but get to know them first. If this is going to be a long term commitment, take the time to get to know them and them to know you.

I am changing the "rules" for transferring allegiance or adopting BB's from other systems. Once I am informed of a family tree addition and this person is being recognised as a BB, they will not be added to the tree for 1 year. Why? Because I/we want to make sure that this is not a "One rank stand". If this student is really of the characture that you want in your family, they won't mind waiting at all. This does not affect students who come up the regular way because they have already waited an average of 5 - 6 years and if they mess up, you should have seen it coming.

All the best.
