GM Ramiro Estalilla of Rigonan Estalilla Kabaroan
« on: July 31, 2006, 02:30:15 PM »
I live in Puerto Rico, and I am a student of Ramiro Estalilla.  I was told that he was inducted in the Kajukenbo family tree.  Can anybody give me more information about this?
also, I would like to know who else has learnt kabaroan escrima with him.  I know that Sibak Art Hughes has trained with him.  Anybody else in the Kajukenbo family?

              my name is juan-carlos shannon.

                      Attentively,

                        J.C.

GM Estalilla has taught at several Kajukenbo gatherings that I know of.  Mainly in conection with Prof Harper.  Art is one of Prof Harpers BB's. ;)

I have been to a couple of the seminars taught by GM Estalilla and I also had the honor of training for a couple months with Guro Ed Bansuelo in Sacramento, CA.

I earned my "PHD"  ;D ;) ;D
The honor and privilage was all mine and I consider them both to be Ohana.   :)

GM RAMIRO ESTALILLA was originally added to the family tree after he was given an honorary black belt by Sigung Jimmy Willis.

He is on the tree under Sigung Willis with an (h) after his name indicating the honorary status of his rank.

I had the honor of promoting Gm Ramiro Estalila at my dojo (Willis Kempo KUng-Fu School). It was during a seminar hosted by my friend/Professor Greg Harper. In the presence of Sijo, Gm Ted Sotello, Gm Emil Bautista, Professor Mitch Powell, Joseph Bautista, Professor Greg Harper and I believe Gm Charles Gaylord was on hand as well. And for those I did not mention, I apologize (smile). I am a student of Gm Ramiro Estalila or should I say Apo, as we call him, also. Started back in 2000  ;D.

GM Estalilla is very knowledgable in his art. I have known GM Estalilla since "97" at Sijo's 50th. He is a good friend and he is the "gold standard" of what a "grand Master' stands for.

With Love and respect,
GM Sotelo

I will be visiting California next week starting Aug. 16.  Hopefully, I should be able to train with "Apo" sometime during my vacation.  I have personally met Greg Harper, who impressed me with his humbleness, teaching and martial arts skills.  Thanks for everyone replying.  Hope to meet some of you sometime.
