Da beeg 1.

At the rate I'm throwing these one liners out, I'll be a keyboard blackbelt in no time.  Either that or I'll get thrown out.

Not all fights end up on the ground, though going to the ground does happen a lot. I've been in many fights, unfortunately and some did go to the ground , but they didn't stay there. Part of that is due to my training I'm sure , but I have seen many fights between untrained fighters . Just because a fight goes to the ground for a few seconds doesn't mean it will stay there. Kajukenbo and the styles that grew from kaju know how to handle a ground offensive. I think grappling is something good to know though, Just in case you are taken to the ground and your opponent knows how to wrestle or grapple.

Training for the ground keeps you off the ground if you choose and gets you up off the ground if you end up there.  I think the most valid reason for ground training is if the fight is with a larger opponent.  A large person can keep a small person with no ground training on the ground even if they have good striking skills.....this is why we never stop training...

It's always better to know how and not need to, than need to and not know how. ;)

True Sifu Dean, though there are many in the martial art world that live in denial.  I have heard on many a day.  No one can take me down I have great take down defense, though they have never wrestled.  Also the other direction, that they can take anyone down and don't need to work their stand up.  I think you have seen the saying on some of the shirts at my school.

Ain't that the truth Professor Bono,
All we have to do, is keep moving, stay progressive and never quit learning.  Personally, I love being under estimated.  Keep your aces hidden & maintain a fighters "Poker Face" (stole that quote from Mr. Lee's book). ;)

I have already set goals this year for things to work on.  I try to use having students to my advantage.  If you train different ones on the side in a specialty for you to work with...  For example I used to have a different partner for each body part at the gym, that way the partners don't get burned out.  This way in the arts they become very good at that specialty and you get a hardcore training partner in that part of the arts....GT
