wow. I finally make a post that people take interest in, and that day I'm too busy to check online :P

Baroni = First
Shamrock = The latter

You have Baroni who got beat in the UFC, then left to make his name in Japan, only to beat Chonan and Kondo has his main claim to fame. Not exactly the most noteworthy fighter to be trash talking, especially someone like Frank.

Then you have Frank (who used to be one of my favorite fighters) who was on fire up until 2003, then comes back  sporadically, only to now be one of the biggest trash talkers in the sport, when he used to be a symbol of class. For example; his last fight where he repeatedly tried to use illegal knees -even after being warned- just to escape a fairly basic fighting position (side mount) and then goes on trash talking Renzo accusing him of wimping out of the fight for the easy win via DQ. Granted Renzo has a dominating top side-control, but if Frank wants to accuse Renzo of not taking the illegal strikes in stride, then perhaps Renzo should have rained down some of his own knees that he out of respect to the rules refrained from using -where he could have easily ended the fight in the first round. And the repeated interviews where he whined and complained about how the sport isn't keeping it "old school"....

In short, this is hardly a case of Mixed Martial Artist vs Martial Artist  ;)

Look at early Frank and say his fight with Bas, sticking his tongue etc.....then not ever taking well to anyone being better.....losing and making excuses that are easy for any fight person to see are not true...  Baroni is a trash talker, but does much of it in good fun, well these days and when he has lost seems to give credit where credit is due.......and of course which one has the better hair......
  From my perspective and many I know Renzo had control....cross mount is cross mount, it's bad very bad......I do not win from being on the bottom of this position.....Frank said Renzo would never take him down......I though it would be very hard.......it seemed very easy.  So either Renzo is a super take down guy or frank wasn't up for the defense.  Renzo did beat Miletich ,,,,,he is no joke.....I'm going tomorrow, I'll let ya know the scoop.....

Well I gotta be honest. During those Pancrase days I wasn't following as much combat sports as I was following my favorite saturday morning television. :-X Perhaps I'm just regurgitating what others have said about the "old Frank", whom supposedly was a respectful and respectable guy. Guess I was misinformed.

That's a pretty accurate assessment IMO. And I don't think Renzo would consider himself an example of top grade wrestling takedowns by any means ;)

PS: Just watched the fight again, and I have to say the commentators comments just before the fight are deliciously ironic in hindsight.  CLick 4 LINK to video

*grumbles* fine...well I just watched the pre-fight hype video that they used, and I'm going to say that this was a case of a gymnast beating a weight-lifter  :P ;D
