well against my better judgement, I'm going to try and salvage this thread with real discussion.
I actually agree with most of what he says, but the commentary of striking in current MMA struck me as a bit off. He talks of the Chuck v. Rampage fight, and references a sloppy punch Chuck threw which left him open for Jackson to catch him, and how "you'd never see that in golden gloves." Well...this isn't golden gloves. Golden gloves guys can afford the luxury of throwing clean crisp hand strikes, because they have no worry of being caught with anything but another punch coming back at them, while someone like Chuck has a dozen things to worry about happening at any time they close the distance to connect.
As much as I sympathize with the stand-up rules, I gotta say if matches ended with two guys hugging in half guard or guard afraid to make a wrong move and open themselves up, a la Royce vs Ken in the early days, I don't think I'd even watch it.
