Are you Fight Ready??
« on: January 26, 2008, 04:30:16 PM »
You find out you are going to be in a fight in 2 months.  You only know he is trained in sort martial art.  He is athletic, and in good shape.  Also he is 3-4inches taller then you and 30 pounds heavier.
This is fictional, but think what do you need to train in?
Is it punching, kicking, grappling, weapons, running away, cardio, the Equilibrium Gun Kata....there are many things but with time pressing and the fight Will happen...
though you can run, what would you work on?????

So this is a real fight, not in the ring? I'd say I would work on rounding up about 6-15 friends, and get my steel pipe ready ;D

If it's a fair fight, definitely cardio and stand-up all the way with me. Running the gauntlet, flipping tires and endless padwork/sparring rounds in between. I feel comfortable enough right now that I don't care if it ends up on the floor, even if I'm out-sized. Ending it quick on my feet and not gassing out would be my #1 priority.

Hrmm....2 months to prepare for a scheduled street fight. Now you really have my imagination going Professor...

So, in this hypothetical situation, how much would it cost to fly you over here with all the firearms and bladed weapons that you own?  8)

Does that mean then I have to fight, or you'll still fight?

For me, I would just keep working on everything as I already do.  I may, actually probably would, do more street sparring, monkey line attacks, etc.  Just stuff to keep my mind on point.  I think that most of us that have had real life ecnounters already, try to be in a constant mode of preparedness.  Fights can happen anytime and anywhere.  So yeah, if I knew ahead of time, I would just work on stuff to keep myself sharp, maybe work on some tactical stuff and if I know where it will be happening, then assess the environment, etc also.

Aloha,

I agree with Sifu Trent Junker.  I would continue to work on the stuff we already do.  Maybe less grappling and more stand-up, concentrate on eye strikes and knee kicks.
This is what we train for, street combat and how to survive.

Agreed Professor Harper - none of the fights I have been in lasted very long at all.  In fact, the only ones that lasted more than a few seconds were encounters while working as a bouncer (ok, lounge host  ;) ) and I did everything possible to keep it from getting physical and stayed professional.  I mean, I try to keep things from getting physical ALL the time, but while in regular life I am obviously much quicker to just end it.

Of course the adrenaline dump you might get when fighting a big guy you know is coming could effect conditioning and prep.....When you don't know sometimes you don't have time to be nervous....

Aloha,
I would definately work on my speed training and cardio. Also my weapon defenses, you never know what your opponent will have in a street fight. I think I would also call Professor Harper and you, to "invite" you both to Missouri for a "vacation".

I think anerobic excercise is best for short durations that most closely resemble a real fight. Tabata Protocols are good for this and can be done on a bag or even shadow boxing if nothing else.
