Asking for healing energy for my son
« on: April 19, 2008, 04:15:29 AM »
Hi Folks,

Believe it or not, this is the 3rd time I'm writing this cause I lost the first one and then thinking I was sending the second one I hit the wrong button.

So. My son Don has a football Spring scrimmage game tomorrow, Saturday April 18, 2008, in Normal, Illinois (no comments from the peanut gallery on the city's name) at 11am PST time and 1pm Illinois time. Don's a defensive end and because of his injury is now fighting for his full-time position on the team. They recruited him, full scholarship (and he is a good academic student as well), but as we all know, nothing is guaranteed in life.

Don's left ankle was sprained over two weeks ago and since he has to keep practicing on it, it isn't getting the proper rest for healing and continues to be a problem for him. He has a high threshold for pain so the fact that he has let me and his father know that the injury is hurting as much as it is indicates to me that it's worse then the trainer's diagnosis of a "bruise".

I ask that you all send Don some healing energy/chi for him to heal and get through tomorrow's game. After tomorrow he will not have to practice until later in the summer. Also, we can have it checked out with our own medical physicians as he'll be home the week of May 8.

I've already told my son that I am sending healing energy to him, but hope that those who practice and believe in this, also send your healing energy to him for we know that we are stronger and better with the help of friends, family, kin and Ohana!

With respect and gratitude,

Where does Don attend school?  I live 30 minutes from Normal.

My recommendation is that he see the athletic trainers and/or team physician with whichever University it is he is attending.  They should be able to help with rehab and recovery.

Hi Sigung,

Don's at Illinois State University. Last year they brought in a whole new group of staff and a new head coach. Apparently, the team wasn't doing as well as the University thought it could be. He doesn't have to practice anymore so he'll be checking the healing for the next couple of weeks until he gets home.

I expect, money and planes being financially alright with me, that I'll attend a couple of his games. If you're a football fan and want to go to a game I'll be glad to let you know when I'm coming to town.

Sifu Brandi...that's the kicker. His trainer says it's just a bruise and he does whatever they say to aid in the healing. But, football in colleges and upwards want to see how you play injured and if you want to retain your position you better claim your spot in spite of certain injuries.

When he got hurt at City College in San Francisco, his coach wouldn't let him practice for two days and they took the nationals this year.

When my son uses the word "adversity" in the same sentence as injury I know it's high pain for him. But, his spirit is immense and he self-challenges and is very disciplined in his training.

Thanks for the advice and the healing energy; nice to hear from you.

Respectfully,

Although a small university, I do work as a collegiate athletic trainer.  Yes, athletes should be able to continue if they are HURT. IF they are INJURED, then they should be out of practice.  I would recommend that he speak with another one of the athletic trainers for another evaluation.  If he feels that much pain, then he should be getting another eval.  We're dealing with that right now.  A football guy hurt his knee, but the other athletic trianer didn't listen, so he came to me.  Now, things are moving in the right direction for him.

Good luck with the healing.
