Kajukenbo Shooters
« on: March 24, 2009, 10:42:02 AM »
I was wondering how many Instructors teach shooting skills to their students.  Maybe you just encourage this aspect of another form of self protection.  Of that group I was wondering how many in Northern California shoot.
I thought it might be an interesting idea to have a shooting group here.....maybe someone has some land or knows a great place etc.....Any thoughts?

Hi Professor Bono, I shoot and like the idea of a shooting group both on the forum and the range. I mostly shoot at United Sportsmans Inc. in Concord, CA. Great outdoor range. They have a range for pretty much any/everything. Membership in Diablo Rod and Gun club brings range fees down about half price. Maybe we could rotate the group(s) around to different locations. Might need different chapters for localities. Anybody up for a Bay area group?

I've only fired a BB air rifle....But we were shooting each other in the back, so it was fun...Never fired a legit firearm.

I have been shooting since I could walk.  Everyone in my family shoots or has shot competitively, from olympic, silhouette shooting, action shooting, you name it.

I require basic shooting competence and safety from purple belt and above, with an improvement in competency with rank.

My father helps to manage one of the gun clubs in Colorado... a bit far from California, so I can't help you there.  He also has his own range on his own land.  It is a lot of work to run a range... not sure I would want to do it myself.  Having something on your own land works pretty well.  He has run into a few problems with people not taking the safety rules seriously though... because it isn't a professional range.  Needless to say... those individuals are never allowed to return, but it really only takes one accident to cause some serious headaches... even on your own land if you are letting people shoot as an organized group.  I would look into any potential liability issues and injury insurance because the typical homeowner's isn't supposed to cover you well.

Good luck with it... it would be a blast to have the opportunity to shoot with more Kajukenbo people.

Prof. Bono, a buddy of mine just started some Bjj classes at a gun range in Dallas...Not exactly Kaju, but this would be my ultimate dream, to train and get some shooting done at the same place.. :D

Sounds like a good idea...I'll see if I can persuade my cop buddy to take me to the range and show me the ropes.

Looks like we have at least two possible locations for Bay Area shooting. Now we just need more Kaju shooters in the area and we can come up with some sort of schedule and rotation. A few more locations might be nice. I know of a few other places to shoot. Professor Bono, the range you listed is very similar to the rrange I go to. It's nice because of the different types of ranges at one location. Many of the indoor ranges only accommodate pistols. Pistols do tend to be the most fun for me though. So, who else is in the area and interested?

Boy that Texas place does look good......California and the rules here are strange.   I do like the outside and different venues there.  The 2 indoor ranges here don't really accommodate groups.......  a little clay shooting wouldn't be to bad besides the hang guns.  I figure for defense really a handgun and shotgun are what's useful.  I think if the person is far enough for a 30-06 you can probably leave ;D

I agree about the shotgun/pistol for self defense. Still good to know how to use the rifles though. xGUMOx, glad to see you are in. That makes at least three of us, plus I know my wife is gonna want in on this.Aybody else have a lady that shoots too?
