It is enough to make one stop going to tournaments!  >:(That's why many don't anymore ;)   Respectfully, Shihan Joe

This is for EmptyCup -

We are the only Kajukenbo school here in Ohio - so when we go to tournaments, we announce our kata (forms) as being sets.  What I mean is this;  Many of the forms in our system are too short for competitions, so we run them together and call them a set based off the first form in the set.  I like to run palamas 9, 3 and 6 together, so I call it palama set 9.  The judges have no idea that it is a combination of three forms.

i was once judging forms a couple of years ago and there was a tie for first place.after they did it again i took points from a kid who did continuous kicks in circles without dropping his foot(traditional forms mind ya).the six degree black belt told me to pick the untraditional kick over the other.nah i dont think so.people shouldnt pay to get ripped off.

I haven't gone to a tournament in years(decades).   Main reason is politics.  We are who we are and will not spice up the art to look pretty.  When I say this I mean the nice pretty perfectly executed head kick 6 inches away is not taught nor practiced.  Way back when (for me, late 70's early 80's ;D) it was who you are.  If you wore black you were different and thus the judges discriminate(Boise, ID).  We did go to our share just to practice what we learned.  Plenty of us got disqualified for being "too aggressive".  My sifu has pictures of his opponant running and hiding behind the ref at one of these.  My sifu lost that match in the judges eyes.  Go figure ???  In MN this is TKD land.  Alot of the tournaments I've checked up on are TKD only.  I figured the kids would get a kick out of competing as I once did.
