I have to laugh at the responses, and as a wife they must explain why I picked the knife and dogs   :)

Police will tell you domestic disputes are the most dangerous.  A significant other can use the knife, gun and trained dog.  They are too unpredictable... very scary.

Sifu Cirillo,

Having worked in a domestic violence womens shelter, I totally agree with you that domestic disputes are the most dangerous.

While working at the shelter I found myself face to face with a hostile husband armed with a knife who was looking for his wife-it was a situation that I never want to find myself in again.

Significant other indeed. Which brings up a key point in all of this. Often our minds stop with the weapon instead of realizing that it is the person who uses the weapon that is dangerous. In encounters where we have time to respond we are indeed attacking the person although he/she may have a weapon. In those times where that attack is on top of us suddenly however there is nothing besides proper reflex-reaction response that we have to go on. Essentially in both points there is the training and conditioning aspect that is the essential physical element. Beyond this the emotional, mental, and spiritual elements take on key importance.

We have to attack the part of our assailant that essentially keeps him alive - his/her heart. Literally and figuratively.
