Kajukenbo/kempo brother needs some backup

Here is an email that I received from one of our brothers.

Aloha bro! In my area I have encountered some local "martial artists" questioning the validity of kajukenbo/kempo, and claiming because we are not ultra traditional like japanese and korean styles we are not effective. I would greatly appreciate a show of support from our Ohana by posting on the union karate center wall and my wall about not only how deep kaju love love is, but also as a show of support from us all to one another. It would be great show of respect for my students as well as yours. Mahalo! Kaju forever!

They have a post about how great Gichin Funakoshi and Shotokan are, and rightfully so. Maybe they would be interested to know that Kenneth Funakoshi, one of the greatest Shotokan practicioners ever, was related to Gichin Funakoshi. Additionally, Kenneth Funakoshi trained under Sijo at Palama, receiving a Kajukenbo Black Belt from Sijo. It's all good.

Effective at passing down traditions or self-defense?  I am glad that we honor tradition and that it goes hand in hand w/effective self-defense.  ("When pure knuckles meet pure flesh, that's pure karate."- Ed Parker)
Also, they have a funny view on tradition.  Shotokan is less than 100 years old.  Most modern Korean arts are honestly about the same age as Kaju, so that's a canard also.
