Ruben don't you think 345 union Ave. is a little close to Sigung Dusty Rhodes who is at 224 union Ave.
(According to google map .3 miles)
Sigung Dusty was your teacher until you had a falling out and went under Kailani Koa.
do you think it right to move so close to another existing Kajukenbo school no matter who it is.
Sigung Dusty is under me, so that is one of my Kajupit locations that you're moving in on.
I wish you luck in opening a school, I just don't know why you would start off by making waves.

The man we shared a space with in the boys and girls which is a block CLOSER to where we are now moved to that space and we moved with him. Prof. Kailani is here with me here in New York. Her school is actually a block away from Sigung Trents school and there are no problems because we are OHANA. She sends her love and aloha. Wherever the Lord takes us that's where we go. God bless you and Sigung Rhodes.

I would not ever move close to another Kajukenbo school myself though I had a student open a school a mile from my school and there is no way that should ever happen to us when we use the word OHANA, when I was going to move my school 9 years ago there was a Kenpo school about 1 mile away and I had much respect for the instructor of that school so I decided not to move there which is how I would expect another brother in martial arts would treat me and would expect more from,a Kajukenbo brother. I hope it works out for both of you anyway  and I know this is not the first or last time it will happen.

No disrepect ment but just how I feel.

I do not teach to make money. I don't even charge my students. I work. My goal is to teach those who want to learn the art that Sijo put out in the world. This is the last I am speaking about this topic because the point of this forum isn't to bring anyone else down but to build Kajukenbo and eachother UP. I am not a business man trying to compete with anyone...I am a, as Prof Kailani said, A Kumu...a TEACHER of this great art and that is all I care about. Thank you all for your concern.

So now you're telling me that you're not only going to move .3 miles from your former teacher, your also going to teach for free when you know thats his bread and butter.
The bottom line is what you're doing is wrong.
Your new teacher and you may think its okay to try and hurt another Kajukenbo school, but good luck with getting others to agree with you.
I'm glad you said this is the last time you're speaking of this because you're wrong in this.

I have to agree with GM Harper and GM Kingi.  Opening a school within a few blocks of another Kajukenbo school is not ok.  In the same town, ok, but I would say that in this particular case with the proximity being so close, it is inappropriate.  I know nothing at all of the parties involved, but what I have read here is that there was a falling out of some sort between the 2 teachers.  For me, this makes the situation even worse.  It makes it feel even more like the ex-student is trying to compete with their old Sifu.  If I am mistaken, I apologize, but that is the feeling it puts out there.

I have received a few phone calls expressing concern that I will be visiting Ruben when I go to New Rochelle, New York.
This is not true. I have no intention of seeing him anytime, anywhere for any reason, ever.
We have had conversations here on the cafe from time to time, but that is all the time that I will spend on him.
He is not a threat to me in any way; I simply disagree with his reasoning.
I do not want to visit him or his school, nor talk with him on the phone, or more importantly, in person.
We have dealt with this situation on and off for around 7 years now and we are done with him.
This letter is only to put to rest any silly rumors about me visiting Ruben or his school.
P.S.
THIS WAS MY OTHER POST

I am also planning on visiting Sigung Dusty Rhodes at our New Rochelle New York location.
The date is not set yet but it's time I gave that school some of my attention and let the locals know who is behind Sigung Dusty.
The plan is to visit another school by surprise (which is not in New York) so don't jump to conclusions.
So get ready Kajupit New Rochelle your Grandmaster is coming to visit.
And I am bringing the real deal when I say hard style, not just using the word to impress people.
