Video of Sijo stating his desires for the KSDI and Kajukenbo
« on: September 25, 2014, 03:28:45 PM »
Has this video ever been posted? If not can someone with a copy post so all of the Ohana can see. I think this video of Sijo declaring his wishes when he passed would stop people  from making claims as to who was left in charge it would also let people know people making such claims who were not, and are making claims be called out as frauds.

since i can no longer reply to the post "THERE IS NO SUCCESSOR TO SIJO EMPERADO "..I thought I'd post this here...... I was just wondering why and if Angel Garcia himself had his name added to the signatures of black belts proclaiming that "there is no official successor to Emperado".. as i recently noticed that joe and Luiz Diaz's instructional kajukenbo dvd says he is? Scroll below to read the description which is also on the box of the actual dvd..which I own. EDIT: it was pointed out to me that the description on the dvd says Sijo passed at 92 when in fact he passed at 82 years of age :o

Kajukenbo: Fight in a Hostile Environment

Item: #90121

$29.99

On this martial arts DVD, Kajukenbo: Fight in a Hostile Environment, martial arts instructors Luis Diaz and Joe Diaz present kajukenbo, a martial art from Hawaii created in Honolulu by Master Sijo Emperado and four other martial arts masters.

Kajukenbo's creators consider this martial art to be a street fighting stylization of MMA intended for self-defense, calling it a realistic martial art [that is] efficient for real-life situations and a style that is explosive, fast, powerful and reactive.

Luis Diaz and Joe Diaz are students of Master Angel Garcia, the official successor of Master Emperado, who died in 2009 at age 93.

Topics on this DVD include:
•defending against a knife attack
•defending against a stick attack
•bare-fist combat
•how to react when you are grabbed

All self-defense techniques are filmed from multiple angles in live speed and slow motion to allow for maximum visual analysis and easy learning!

NOTE: This DVD's audio track is playable in several languages, one of which is an English dub.

Hello Claudio,
I'm responding because of you and because you visited me once and trained with me in my school...I know you and like you :)

For us he his a legitimate successor of Sijo because he was the one which Sijo said to many 'he was the best' (I have heard this personally from people that heard it directly from Sijo, and some off you in this cafe know it also) and for us he is the best...and for logic way he was the only one that worked and evolved Sijo's program with is authorization and Sijo's presence.
For all Kajukenbo community he his not Kajukenbo's successor offcourse, but for Europe he is and he had his confidence and legitimacy to act in all kjkb matters in europe with no interference of anyone.(with doc's to prove that)

This distinction of Garcia's Method happen because Kajukenbo had no respect anymore...7th degree in one weak with no prior in kjkb...well many things...
Recently the person who taught Kajukenbo basis to Angel Garcia and disapeard for 40 years with no news to anyone appears and was promoted to GM 9th...not honorary...but full GM...strange days...
Kajukenbo is like portuguese army, too many generals but few lead people in battle...
You can say, but who promoted Angel Garcia to 10th in official papper?...I ask you who promoted SGM Gaylord to 10th?(I could ask who promoted him to black belt...maybe no one knows here)...well his organization did it from 9th to 10th and Sijo accept that later...so...we can say the same for SGM Angel and we know in our hearts that this was a Sijo's wish...
Well who promoted SGm Garcia to black?...well he was left alone with students to teach and no info from no one and he continued untill Sijo's met him in '84 (because he tried hard to contact kaju people with no success till then) and Sijo liked so much what he saw that promoted him to 4th BB...GM Forbach was there...

wait you can't see this because SGM Angel's Bio was erased from here....maybe like my post will(or moved or something)

anyway I'm not here to bring up somehow old ghosts...People are doing their stuff and Garcia's Method is going good...
KSDI recognizes everybody that is their decision...easy phrase to say here: 'the past is the past let's focus on the future'....but the past let us know where we are at...
bottom line...in your way everybody promotes Kajukenbo name and that's good but people now can choose to see, to hide or assume  wateva...

Big Aloha from Portugal

I had a chance to speak with Ed Shepard in great length in regards to this matter in Fort Worth Texas at the KSDS gathering for Richard Peralta which reveled a few interesting things as he was one of the Kajukenbo instructors in Spain.

Renato GGM Gaylord was promoted to 10th under a martial arts board (who most on here know) it wasn't the KAA or his students...it was called an honorary 10th at the time and then Sijo made it official. His Black Belt certs were all signed by Sijo and some by Paul Seronio...make sure you do your research before stating things as fact...Peace

I agree Professor Bono.  Also, SGM Bautista, please share your conversation with Ed Shepard.  I am cognizant of some of it.
Officially KSDI does not recognized Angel Garcia's 10th degree and the KAA (GGM Gaylord) is recognized by KSDI & Sijo.

this is where most of the Kajukenbo world has gotten the information about GGM Gaylord being promoted by his students and the KAA to 10th deg..  For sure, if its false, it should be removed a.s.a.p., and the new story put up.

There very well may have been two different promotions to the same rank, one by his students (KAA) and another by a board (which had GGM Al Novak on it).

Aloha Sifu Renato Bernardino,
to compare GM Angel Garcia to GGM Gaylord is a farce. Wrong era and wrong circumstances. It's like comparing apples to pears. To even be considered apart of the Ohana where is your respect for the decease. These noble men brought Kajukenbo to the mainland, well before GM Garcia stepped onto a military airbase to learn Kajukenbo. They deserve  more respect, and you need to know the history of the art, to know what you are talking about, in regards to who was a black belt and who was not before you try to bash someone and sell how great another one is. Example GGM Gaylord did learn from a black belt and was with Sijo and others before coming to the mainland vs learning from a green belt on a military airbase, who did do a great job by the way, in representing Kajukenbo. I have seen GGM Gaylord 1st Degree Black Belt certificate with my own eyes....but still I believe respect is in order when trying to bash someone who is part of the Kajukenbo history, who you probably have never even met.

what a joke, to bring this up again.
and I would say comparing apples to raisins.
