Is your question why they hit him?

In Kajukenbo Sijo used his belt to "bless" you.  The strikes to the body was always the ritual.

Sounded like a 2nd degree promotion.

Yeah, I didn't understand the question or your frame of reference.

Many Kajukenbo schools do this following black belt promotions as part of tradition.  We still do it at my school and we are by no means a "traditional" school.
In fact it is one of a few "traditional" practices that we follow.

If you think getting smacked with a bit of cotton cloth is somehow "barbaric" or "brutal" then you may not have much to compare it to yet.
"The workout isn't over until I see blood on the floor" -- Sijo

Some "more gentle" Kajukenbo schools -and most "martial arts" schools- have watered down the training and "brutality" to get more students but some of us in the "less gentle" camp consider the blood and bruises to be a badge of honor.
"Less gentle" schools generally choose to retain the "brutality" in training to make our -often fewer- students more likely to survive real violence.

I cannot tell from your profile what your style or lineage is, so I cannot provide much more insight.
I thought it was a requirement to have your lineage and affliation in your signature, or something like that.

Dave I wasn't aware I needed to that. I will try to edit my profile.  I have mixed feelings about the video. I myself don't have a problem with it, but I would eventually like my daughters to take it with me. As a father I  don't want them to experience any harm. I also don't want them dating, kissing boys, or any boys calling the house. I know this is going to happen. I'm just being an over protective dad. lol

Hello sir.

No offense taken on my end and I didn't mean to sound rude or pushy.
I just seem to remember the signature thing being a requirement.

As for the safety of your daughters, I understand.  Mine will be 13 in October.
I personally feel my child will have a better chance defending herself if she can take it -for real- as good as she dishes it out.
The youngest student I ever accepted was 10 years old and he didn't get to test for his black belt for 6 years.
He tested full-contact against 30 year old men in the 220 lb range and held his own at age 16 and about 150 lbs.
I have photos and videos online because like they say: "Pics or it didn't happen."

I usually don't train kids but I might make exceptions on a case-by-case basis.
Parents are required to sign additional waivers for kids to train with me because there are no "kids classes" - they train against adult men, as do women.
In almost 30 years, 2 women and one kid (16 year old boy) have managed to pass our black belt test along side / against grown men.

Many women and parents do not want training which is that rigorous or demanding and go somewhere else.
I'm happy with that.  They would be wasting our time anyway.

However some Kajukenbo schools are "softer" than others, as mentioned below.
Talk to the instructors in question, watch a classes for a few weeks and see if it is what you are looking for.
Kajukenbo schools are not "all the same" like a taekwondo class might be.   Check a few out.

Personally, I prefer realistic training and often have more respect and esteem for the rougher schools.
Your mileage may vary.

I haven't been taking kajukenbo long. I took a class back in Memphis. I recently move to San Antonio and I have been training with Grandmaster Acros for about a month. I'm hoping by my girls taking kajukenbo with me will make me feel more comfortable with them going out.

I wouldn't worry about it.  Belt whipping is usually reserved for black belt promotions.  Anyone who can't take a belt whipping probably shouldn't be a black belt.

On a side note, we do require members to put their true name and any Kajukenbo affliation they may have in their signature line.

Did I do it right? The signature? I'm not really worried about testing for black belt. I'm not saying I will get it with ease. I'm saying I'm more excited about the knowledge I will be learning from Grandmaster Acros III and Senior Grandmaster Acros.
