Resources for School Owners

I am in immediate need of the following recommendations/suggestions:

  • Legal service specializing in contact sports
  • Insurance specializing in contact sports
  • Your recommendations for uniforms & gear. I currently use HSU for uniforms and I'm pretty happy with Ken. For gear I've sourced from Macho

To answer some questions. I use for legal services - Prepaid Legal Services. The cost its only $26.00 a month and it's service is not only wide range but unlimited.

Insurance - there are quite a few with some offering different perks.

I have used different types of uniforms but Tiger Claw is pretty hard to beat when it comes to shipment and quality. But again, it will depend on the instructors preference. Like buying a car. Do I buy the Mercedes or the Ford :).

Same here I think; my recommendations would be based more on your needs and just generalizations.

Pre-paid legal might be a good place to start.

Choice of uniform would be based on your training program and what your goals are.
I like the Ronin Middleweight Karate uniform (9.5 oz) for a "kenpo" class, but not for grappling.

I don't require my students to wear uniforms except for formal occasions and even then they are not required to buy them from me or all wear the same brand.

Insurance needs could be covered by your business policy, depending on how it is written.

I mostly buy rattan sticks, training guns, boxing gear (16 oz gloves, mouth guards, focus mitts etc) and the like from the best looking source (Title, FIST, Kombat Instruments Limited, Amazon, Red Man, eBay, whatever) so I don't have any recommendations for karate "sparring" gear.

We use stuff like thai pads, Predator Armour and impact baton shields in place of pork chop paddles, shin guards and the like.

i chose F. Dean for insurance...very reasonable.

century martial arts supply is a great source for uniforms and equipment...with a wholesale account, they beat just about everyone and most important, great cust. service.

good luck.

oh, and may be worth looking into llc status in your state.

I still do some freelance legal work and might be able to assist with no. 1.
PM me if you like.

I second F. Dean for insurance (karateinsurance.com). They offer full contact liability insurance at a good price.
